Before…

I am not in favor of changing. I was against the idea of studying abroad when my mother suggested I go to Germany. I did not change my mind until we took a summer vacation in Pittsburgh in 2016. We have been to New York, Washington, and Philadelphia. Frankly, I don’t like big cities. I called them “big outlets.” I hated that my mother was busy shopping all the time. I changed my mind after I visited Pittsburgh. People there were always smiling, nice, and willing to help. The summer was like spring in my hometown; the summer temperature in my hometown was at least 90F, usually closer to 100F. My hometown is called Oven City; so, Pittsburgh for me is like the best city for summer.

We stayed at my father’s friend’s house; his name is Jun. He has two daughters. His youngest daughter was only three years old. She could not separate Chinese and English. She said things like, “I am going to make milk Cha (pronunciation of tea in Mandarin) and he (drink in Mandarin).” I spent time with these two young ladies and their mother while my parents were busy shopping.

So the pleasant people and familiar weather made me want to move to Pittsburgh!
